La naissance du roman moderne

Abstract

Resumen: En la literatura francesa la modernidad narrativa comienza con Baudelaire. Si a una novela moderna como Madame Bovary se le reprochaba su realismo chocante, que inquietaba los valores morales y religiosos de la época, otro tanto se podría decir de la novela argentina del período 1880-1900, de la alemana o de la española. En cuanto al nacimiento de la novela como género, existen antecedentes antiguos (Apuleyo), medievales (novelas de caballería) y renacentistas o barrocos (Rabelais, Cervantes). Los varios “nacimientos” de la novela parecen apuntar siempre hacia un esquema ternario (realidad, ficción y mediación; yo, tú y él), y sus distintas fases y crisis genéricas remiten a la figura del dios Proteo, también evocado por Nietzsche al analizar el origen de la tragedia.

Abstract: In French literature, narrative modernity begins with Baudelaire. If a modern novel like Madame Bovary was questioned for its shocking realism, which alarmed the moral and religious values of its time, so can be said of the Argentine novel in the period 1880-1900, of the German and the Spanish one. As to the birth of the novel, there are Antique (Apuleius), Medieval (novels of chivalry) and later antecedents (Rabelais, Cervantes). The many “births” of the novel seem to always imply three elements (reality, fiction and mediation; I, you and he), and its different phases and generic crises relate to the god Proteus, also evoked by Nietzsche in his analysis of the origins of tragedy.
