La muerte de Heráclito : ¿cómo contar la vida de un presocrático?

Abstract

Resumen: En el primer Capítulo del Libro IX de su Vidas de los filósofos Diógenes Laercio nos transmite tres anécdotas distintas en relación a la muerte de Heráclito de Éfeso. Lo que llama la atención de dichas anécdotas es que es posible establecer una relación entre ellas y elementos de la filoso-fía del efesio. Así, la pregunta que el presente trabajo se propone responder es cuánto hay de verdad en dichas anécdotas y cuánto de ficción. El modo en que procederemos será ofrecer una traducción de las tres anécdotas, analizar-las y, luego, establecer las relaciones con la doctrina heraclítea antes men-cionadas. Una vez hecho esto, si es que logramos mostrar que las anécdotas son creaciones literarias, surgirá el interrogante sobre el valor como fuente doxográfica que la obra de Diógenes posee, interrogante que también inten-taremos responder.

Abstract: In the first chapter of Book IX of his Lives of the philosophers Diogenes Laercio conveys three different stories in relation to the death of Heraclitus of Ephesus. What draws the attention of those stories is that it is possible to establish a relationship between them and elements of the phi-losophy of the Ephesian. So the question that this paper seeks to answer is how much truth there is in these stories and how much fiction. How we pro-ceed will provide a translation of the three stories, analyze them and then es-tablish relations with the Heraclitean doctrine above. Once this is done, if we show that the stories are literary creations, arises the question of the value as doxographic source of the work of Diogenes; we try to answer that question too.
