Abstract: The present article provides an analysis and a traslation of a Syriac letter by Mara, son of Serapion, to his own son, who is a student. The attention is focused on the historical setting of the document and its philosophical contents. A particulary interesting aspect in it is the mention of Jesus Christ ("the wise king of the Jews") among some examples of philosophers who suffered unjust persecution but were rewarded and revenged by God's justice. |
