Abstract: Dona Flor has two husbands , two loves . They are characters from a novel by Jorge Amado, living a complex relationship where human feelings and needs are involved, and where religion is not absent , whatever role it plays . The subtitle of the novel is suggestive : the battle between spirit and matter . More than philosophical debates with marxists, stoics or other influences , the novel tells the love story of a woman who doesn’t want to live it in a dimension of their humanity , but in the totality of her personal human being . As the story unfolds , love exists not only in spiritual or material dimension , but it is an integrative and constitutive experience of the entire human being. There is no love that does not come true historically , and this seems an aspect overlooked when considering the theology of incarnation.
