Based on an examination of relevant texts from the different traditions of the New Testament, this article proposes that the concept of “siblingship” used therein is not univocal but rather takes on different nuances according to the process of identity formation of the early Christian communities, their needs, and their relationship with the social environment in which they lived. The sibling metaphor, which served to express many of the ideals of the emerging Christianity, must be constantly reassessed so that it can be meaningful in today’s Christian communities.
