This paper aims to relate, through presentation and comparison, the different notions of "world" in Jan Patočka's phenomenological project and of "Other" in the phenomenology of Emanuel Lévinas, presented during the 1970s and 1960s, respectively. We will argue that, although these concepts are similar, since they were used to conceive of a phenomenology oriented toward an ungraspable exteriority, alien to the immediate, they are not equivalent due to the methods employed by each philosopher to account for and describe these phenomena. Furthermore, we will show that the methodological difference lies primarily in the objects of study, the units of analysis, the influences, and the objectives that each author considered in formulating their proposal. |
