Sistema de la puntuación en la tradición textual de Amadís de Gaula

Abstract

En la historia de la tradición del texto impreso del Amadís de Gaula de Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo concurren tres procesos distintos: de divergencia del arquetipo impreso en el plano segmental del signo lingüístico, de convergencia con el mismo en el suprasegmental del significante y de convergencia esporádica de nuevo en el primero. La convergencia en lo suprasegmental no consiste en el aumento paulatino de signos de puntuación específicos ni en el de los lugares puntuados para aproximarse a la forma de la representación gráfica del arquetipo, sino en la manifestación más explícita de la forma suprasegmental genuina del mismo por tal incremento. Dado que esta forma suprasegmental es la entonación, los signos de puntuación tienen la función primordial de representar tonemas. A esta función primera tonemática se agrega la demarcativa como inherente necesaria, de las cuales es epifenoménica la pausa. Como en la conformación de la prosa amadisiana son partes solidarías la entonación, la segmentación y la pausa resultantes de ella, la rima, el énfasis, las construcciones sintácticas y sus disposiciones tácticas, como en el texto la representación gráfica, signo segundo del signo primero lingüístico, comprende la de cada una de esas partes de naturaleza acústica con los grafismos que les corresponden —signos de puntuación para la entonación, énfasis, segmentación y pausa; identidad o semejanza de grafemas de vocales tónicas y átonas para la rima; mayúsculas iniciales para los vocablos en posición tonemática o enfática; características disposiciones tácticas para la sintaxis segmental—, y como todas estas formas visuales particulares son solidarias en la representación de la forma acústica del texto, el filólogo ha de considerarlas en conjunto unánime y como se dan en toda la tradición textual para la recostrucción de la prosa amadisiana.

In the history of tradition regarding the printed text of Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo's Amadís de Gaula, three different processes converge: one of divergence of the archetype printed in the segmental level of the linguistic sign, another of convergence with the archetype in the suprasegmental level of the signifier, and another one of sporadic convergence again on the first. Convergence in the suprasegmental level does not consist in a gradual increase of specific punctuation signs or in the punctuated places to reach the form of the graphic representation of the archetype, but it consists in the most explicit expression of the genuine suprasegmental form of it owing to this increase. Given that this suprasegmental form is intonation, punctuation signs have the main function of representing units of tone. Added to this first function there is the demarking one as necessarily inherent, of which the pause is epiphenomenic. As in the conformation of Amadís' prose intonation, its correspondent segmentation and pause, rhyme, emphasis, syntactic constructions and their tactic positions all act together, and as within the text graphic representation, a secondary sign of the primary linguistic sign, comprehends that of each of those parts of acoustic nature with the graphics that correspond to them —punctuation signs for intonation, emphasis, segmentation and pause; identity or similarity of graphemes from tonic or non-tonic vowels for the rhyme; inítial capital letters for words in tonematic or emphatic position; characteristic tactic disposition for segmental syntax—, and as all these particular visual forms act together in the representation of the acoustic form of the text, the philologist must consider them as a whole and in the way they appear in the complete textual tradition for the reconstruction of the Amadis' prose.
