Aristotelismo, la unidad del bien y sus consecuencias teóricas

Abstract

Resumen: En este trabajo se busca mostrar la relevancia de la concepción del bien humano para las diferentes dimensiones de un sistema filosófico. Para ello, se compara la posición de Alasdair MacIntyre con la de Charles Taylor. En primer lugar, se expone la adhesión de ambos a una concepción aristotélica –evidente en el primero, más parcial y limitada en el segundo–, para luego señalar sus desacuerdos en torno a la idea del bien humano, que uno ve como unitario e integrado, mientras que el otro interpreta como plural y potencialmente contradictorio. Finalmente, se rastrean las repercusiones que esta divergencia tiene sobre distintos ámbitos de sus respectivas teorías, como la evaluación moral de la Modernidad o las posibilidades de un diálogo inter-tradicional. Así, se pretende dejar en evidencia la necesidad de atender a esta dimensión ética en un ámbito filosófico habituado a ignorarla o darla por supuesto.

Abstract: This paper aims to show the relevance of the conception of the human good for the different dimensions of a philosophical system. To do so, Alasdair MacIntyre’s and Charles Taylor’s positions are compared. In the first place, the adherence of both to an Aristotelian conception is presented –evident in the former, mora partial and limited in the latter–, to then point out their disagreements on the idea of the human good, which one sees as unitary and integrated, while the other interprets it as plural and potentially contradictory. Finally, the repercussions of this divergence on different aspects of their respective theories are tracked, such as the moral evaluation of Modernity or the possibilities of an inter-traditional dialogue. Thus, the intention is to evidence the necessity of attending to this ethical dimension in a philosophical climate used to ignoring or assuming it as given.
