Abstract: The general objective of this study was to explore the level of mental well-being and quality of life associated with living with pets in two groups of older adults between 60 and 85 years of age, living in Argentina. The specific objectives were to associate the variables mental well-being and quality of life with living with pets, to compare the level of mental well-being in older adults living with pets and not living with pets, and finally, to compare the level of quality of life in these groups. The research was quantitative and a cross-sectional control case study was carried out, since the levels of the variables analyzed were compared in two groups of subjects. As instruments, the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being scales were used, in its validated version translated by Serrani Azcurra (2015), and the Quality of Life scale developed by the WHO (2004). The sample consisted of 100 older adults of the aforementioned ages, with 50 participants in each group. Regarding the results, it was concluded that mental well-being and quality have no significant association with living with companion animals. Likewise, no significant differences were observed when comparing the levels of mental well-being of each of the groups. Finally, there were significant differences in the levels of quality of life of both groups, with the group living with animals having the highest level of quality of life.
