Los small finds de Tell el-Ghaba (Sinaí septentrional, Egipto): una revisión

Abstract

Summary: The Small Finds from Tell el-Ghaba (North Sinai, Egypt): A Review This work proposes a review and characterization of the small finds from Tell El-Ghaba archaeological site (North Sinai, Egypt), an urban settlement that was occupied between the beginning of the Third Intermediate Period and the early Saite period (10th-7th centuries BC). These objects were recovered in the systematic excavations carried out by the Argentine Archaeological Mission between 1995 and 2010. First, the concept of “small finds” and the inherent difficulties that complicate the approach to these assemblages are problematized, considering they require new proposals; second, a systematized review of the objects cataloged as small finds in the site is carried out. Finally, from a new analytical proposal, a selected sample of special findings is characterized, considering both published data and databases; these objects were classified in categories and subcategories without using function as the primary classification value. From this, the main characteristics of these objects are exposed, and the first steps are taken to interpret the small finds from Tell el-Ghaba. In turn, this general characterization allows, on the one hand, to deal with a large database; on the other hand, to achieve a global approach parallel to an individual approach, according to the characteristics of published catalogs.

Resumen: Los small finds de Tell el-Ghaba (Sinaí Septentrional, Egipto): una revisión En este trabajo se propone una revisión y caracterización de los small finds del sitio arqueológico Tell El-Ghaba (Norte de Sinaí, Egipto), un asentamiento urbano que estuvo ocupado entre comienzos del Tercer Periodo Intermedio y el periodo Saíta temprano (mediados del siglo X a.C. hasta finales del siglo VII a.C.). Estos objetos fueron recuperados en los trabajos de campo realizados por la Misión Arqueológica Argentina en dicho sitio entre los años 1995 y 2010. En primera instancia se problematiza el concepto de “small finds” y las dificultades inherentes que complejizan el abordaje de estos conjuntos y requieren de nuevas propuestas; en segundo lugar, se sistematiza y realiza una revisión de los materiales catalogados como small finds para el sitio; y en tercer lugar, considerando una nueva propuesta analítica, se caracteriza la muestra de hallazgos especiales seleccionada tomando los datos publicados y las bases de registro a partir de la clasificación de los objetos en categorías y subcategorías sin utilizar la función como valor primario de clasificación. De este modo, se exponen las características principales de este conjunto mobiliario y se llevan adelante los primeros pasos para interpretar el arte mueble presente en Tell el-Ghaba. A su vez, esta caracterización general permite, por un lado, lidiar con una gran base de datos; por otro lado, lograr un acercamiento global a la muestra paralelo al acercamiento individual a los objetos que priorizan y permiten los catálogos publicados.
