La soprano Juana Capella : primeros apuntes para una historia de la intepretación vocal femenina operística en la Argentina de inicios del siglo XX

Abstract

Resumen: Se indaga la trayectoria artística de Juana Capella (1879-1915), cantante de ópera, argentina. Toda biografía da cuenta de su tiempo. El tema está ameritando una investigación exhaustiva que permita una mayor comprensión sobre la propia historia cultural y, al mismo tiempo, sobre la historia de otros que se conecta con la propia. Sin duda el perfil de esta gran cantante permite avizorar otras figuras femeninas, también estelares, que se destacaron en la escena operística de la primera mitad del siglo XX. Sustentada en un marco teórico deudor de las teorías de género, que supere la intención ‘reivindicativa’ de atender a figuras ‘olvidadas’ de la historia musical argentina, la investigación busca comprender el contexto social y cultural en que su actividad artística se desarrolló.

Abstract: In this article, we explore the artistic career of Argentinian opera singer Juana Capella (1879-1915). Any biography is a report of its days. The subject deserves a comprehensive investigation in order to achieve a greater understanding of the invaluable historical and cultural contribution and, at the same time, "the other" history that is connected to it. Undoubtedly, the profile of this great female singer allows us to look to some other starring feminine figures, that were prominent in the operatic scene of the first half of the 20th century. This approach is supported by a theoretical framework concerning gender theories. We try to go beyond the ‘revindicative’ intention that would put attention on ‘forgotten’ figures of Argentine musical history in search of understanding their artistic activity in its social and cultural context.
