Teología, pueblo y milenarismo en el protestantismo inglés del siglo XVII : la justificación divina de la revolución en Levellers y Diggers y sus imbricaciones con la soberanía popular

Abstract

Resumen: El trabajo se propone estudiar las propuestas diagramadas por miembros de los grupos radicales ligados a confesiones protestantes denominados como Levellers y Diggers durante la revolución inglesa de mediados del siglo XVII. Se intentará entrever cómo en estos publicistas se justificaba la necesidad de la revolución frente a la monarquía, dentro de un marco teológico y político que integraba una reinterpretación de la historia, la instauración de un sistema sociopolítico basado en una concepción milenarista y la recreación de una idea de pueblo como agente primordial de este proceso. En base a estos postulados, se buscará vislumbrar cuál era el rol que el aspecto teológico pudo jugar en los inicios de la Modernidad, entremezclado con nuevos esquemas históricos, filosóficos y políticos, dando paso al surgimiento de concepciones mentales que trataban de redefinir el rol del individuo frente a la sociedad, el gobierno, el pasado y sus perspectivas hacia el futuro.

Abstract: The aim of this article is to study the proposals presented by members of radical political groups associated with different protestant confessions known as Levellers and Diggers during the mid-seventeenth century English Revolution. The topics that will be analyzed include how these publicists justified the necessity of revolution against the monarchy, within a theological and political frame which included a reinterpretation of history, the establishment of a socio-political system based in a millenarian conception and the recreation of the idea of “people” as an essential element in this process. Throughout these premises, the intention will be to evaluate which was the role of theology at the beginnings of Modernity, intermingled with new historical, philosophical and political approaches, giving way to the origin of mental conceptions which tried to redefine the position of the individual in front of society, government, the past and future perspectives.
