¿Límites éticos para avanzar en la investigación científica?

Abstract

Resumen: En el debate o discusión sobre temas de bioética (fecundación in vitro, uso de embriones humanos para investigación o fines terapéuticos, maternidad subrogada, eutanasia, sedación paliativa...) la dignidad del ser humano suele dejarse al margen, pero debería ser el primer objetivo ético de toda acción humana. Esta dignidad, cualidad que todo ser humano posee, radica en su ser. Luego, todas las acciones humanas han de ser expresión y manifestación de lo que la propia dignidad humana reclama. Dicha dignidad se expresa en las acciones que el ser humano realiza. Sin embargo, el artículo muestra cómo el ser humano no es tratado, en muchos temas bioéticos, como fin en sí mismo, sino como medio al servicio de fines económicos, terapéuticos, de investigación o “humanitarios”.

Abstract: In the debate or discussion on issues of bioethics (in vitro fertilization, use of human embryos for research or therapeutic purposes, surrogate motherhood, euthanasia, palliative sedation...) the dignity of the human being is often left aside, but it should be the first ethical objective in every human action. This dignity, the quality that every human being possesses, lies in his being. Then, all human actions should be an expression and manifestation of what human dignity itself demands. Such dignity is expressed in the actions performed by human beings. However, the article shows how the human being is not treated, in many bioethical issues, as end in itself, but as a medium at the service of economic, therapeutic, research or “humanitarian” purposes.
