La revolución francesa según el pensamiento de Eric Hobsbawn

Abstract

Resumen: En esta ponencia se explica la interpretación del historiador Eric Hobsbawm sobre la Revolución Francesa, en el contexto de la doble revolución que acontece en el siglo XIX largo. Primero se repasa la situación en Europa y las causas que llevaron a los sucesos de 1789. Luego, se analizan los motivos por los cuales la revolución se radicalizó, con especial énfasis en las manifestaciones legales de las constituciones de 1791 y 1793. Finalmente, se repasan los fenómenos de la guerra y el terror jacobino, para concluir con las consecuencias de la revolución y la reconfiguración política y geográfica de Europa.

Abstract: In this paper the author explains how the British historian Eric Hobsbawm understands the French Revolution of 1789, in the context of the dual revolution that takes place in Europe during the long 19TH century. First, the author reviews the situation in Europe and the causes that led to the events of 1789. Second, the author analyzes the events that radicalized the Revolution and makes a special reference to the Constitutions of 1791 and 1793. To conclude, the paper examines the revolutionary war and the reign of Terror, and closes with the consequences of the Revolution and the reconfiguration of politics and geography in Europe.
