Memoria y proyecto político en el Panegírico de Plinio

Abstract

Resumen: Los principados de Nerva (96-99) y Trajano (99-117) representan un momento particular en la historia de Roma en el cual se reconoce el diseño de un “proyecto político” para el régimen imperial. Producido por un grupo de intelectuales aristocráticos nucleados en torno a la figura de Plinio “el joven”, este proyecto tenía por objeto resolver la tensión inherente entre la aristocracia y el emperador. A partir del análisis de su Panegírico de Trajano, en el presente trabajo indagaremos sobre los aspectos centrales de este proyecto, las estrategias discursivas para llevarlo a cabo y la función cumplida, en este sentido, por la memoria sobre el pasado reciente del principado, construida allí. Una memoria cuyos aspectos básicos se re-proyectan en las obras históricas de Tácito y Suetonio, miembros del “círculo intelectual” de Plinio y participantes de su proyecto político, y que nos han legado en gran medida las imágenes de los Césares del siglo I que tenemos hoy en día

Abstract: The Principates of Nerva (96-99) and Trajan (99-117) represent a particular moment in Roman History in which the design of a “political project” for the imperial regime is recognized. Fabricated by a group of aristocratic intellectuals grouped around the figure of Pliny the Younger, this project was designed to resolve the inherent tension between the aristocracy and the emperor. From the analysis of the Panegyricus of Trajan, in the present work we will investigated the central aspects of these project, the rhetorical strategies to put it on and the function achieved, in this sense, by the memory of the recent past of the Principate, built there. A memory whose basic aspects are re-project in the historical works of Tacitus and Suetonius, members of the “intellectual circle” of Pliny and participants of his political project, and that legated us greatly the images of the Caesars of the first century that we have nowadays
