Resumen :	Resumen: Este artículo analiza una de las razones de la finalización de un Pontificado: la renuncia. El autor explica las principales características de esta institución, así como sus orígenes en el pasado. Desarrolla también la legislación actual sobre este tema y la histórica renuncia del Papa Benedicto XVI. Abstract: this article analyzes one of the reasons of the Pope’s dismissal: renunciation. The author explains the main characteristics of this institution, as well as its origins in the past. He develops also the current legislation about the issue and the historical resignation of Pope Benedict XVI.
