La contemplación y la acción frente a la gloria en De re publica de Cicerón

Abstract

Resumen: en De re publica Cicerón defiende la superioridad de la vida política activa sobre la teorética y termina la obra en el Somnium, prometiendo la gloria celestial al virtuoso gobernante. La contemplación ciceroniana encuentra su fundamento en el orden cósmico y se inscribe en una larga tradición griega: Heráclito, Parménides, Platón, Aristóteles, etc. La primacía de la contemplación pierde preponderancia en la Modernidad desembocando en los racionalismos, idealismos y positivismos, que priorizan la praxis y tienen como salida el utilitarismo. En la sociedad utilitaria sólo cabe el pago a un servicio, por lo tanto, no hay lugar para la gloria. En cambio, la ratio humana ciceroniana tiene su fundamento en la Ratio Summa y será entonces el hombre principio del universo como ratio secunda. Ese fundamento define la jerarquía del premio de la gloria.

Abstract: Cicero defends in De re publica the superiority of the active political life above the theoretical one. He finishes this work in the Somnium, promising the heavenly glory as the righteous rule. The Cicero’s Contemplation is grounded on the cosmic order and is a part of a long greek tradition: Heraclitus, Parmenides, Plato, Aristotle, etc.. The primacy of the contemplation loses its preponderance in the Modernity leading to the rationalism, idealism and positivism, those prioritize the practice and they have as an output the utilitarianism. The utilitarian society can only pay for a service, therefore, there is no place for the glory. Whereas the human ratio is based on the ratio Summa and the man is then the principle of the universe as the secondary ratio. Sucha that that foundation defines the hierarchy of the prize of the glory.
