Fernando Montilla y la zarzuela cubana. La historia de un patrimonio preservado en vinilo

Abstract

Un breve recorrido por la historia de la zarzuela cubana lleva hasta sus compositores y títulos más representativos. En la actualidad, a falta de ediciones críticas de sus partituras, son los discos la forma más factible para acercarse, en materia musical, a lo que originalmente concibieron sus autores y para relacionarse con los modelos canónicos de interpretación que han sido guía para quienes han abordado el género hasta nuestros días. Cuatro de estas grabaciones históricas fueron producidas por el ingeniero de sonido puertorriqueño Fernando Montilla, una figura relevante dentro del movimiento discográfico y musical de la Iberoamérica del pasado siglo. Conocer la génesis de estos proyectos y particularidades de cada uno revela la importancia de estos soportes discográficos que han contribuido a la difusión y preservación de estas obras patrimoniales tanto dentro como fuera de Cuba.

A brief journey through the history of Cuban zarzuela takes us to its most representative composers and works. Currently, ought to the lack of critical editions of their scores, recordings are the most feasible way to musically appreciate what their authors original conception was and to engage with the canonical performance models that have guided those who have explored the genre to this day. Four of these historical recordings were produced by the Puerto Rican sound engineer Fernando Montilla, a key figure in the Ibero-American recording and music field of the last century. Understanding the genesis of these projects and the particularities of each one, reveals the importance of these recordings, which have contributed to diffusion and preservation of these heritage works both in Cuba and beyond its borders.
