La naturaleza performativa de la fe del pueblo

Abstract

En este trabajo se presenta una crítica a los conceptos de “religiosidad popular” y “piedad popular”, poniendo de relieve su sesgo peyorativo respecto a las instancias oficiales de la religión cristiana. Se plantea el término “fe del pueblo” para definir aquellas experiencias religiosas que surgen en el seno de los pueblos, mediadas por culturas locales, y que no son simplemente una experiencia marginal de Iglesia, sino que se constituyen en expresión objetiva del sensus fidei. Esta perspectiva de valoración ya había sido perfilada en los albores de la teología latinoamericana, pero con el magisterio del Papa Francisco recibirá un nuevo impulso. A continuación, se describe la naturaleza performativa de esta fe del pueblo y su relación con las expresiones institucionales a través de la teoría del contraste de Romano Guardini y la figura del círculo hermenéutico.

In this paper, a critique of the concepts of “popular religiosity” and “popular pi-ety” is presented, highlighting their pejorative bias with respect to the official in-stances of the Christian religion. The term “people’s faith” is proposed to define those religious experiences that arise within the people, mediated by local cultures, and that are not simply a marginal experience of the Church, but constitute an ob-jective expression of the sensus fidei. This perspective of valuation had already been outlined at the origins of Latin American theology, but with the teaching of Pope Francis it will receive a new impetus. Next, the performative nature of this people’s faith and its relationship with institutional expressions are described through Ro-mano Guardini’s theory of contrast and the figure of the hermeneutic circle.
