La fantasía transhumanista de un humano sin vejez: tópicos de la bioética personalista ontológica

Abstract

En este trabajo me propongo analizar el tema de la ancianidad, especialmente bajo la mirada transhumanista y posthumanista, que mediante postulados como el de la juventud eterna llegan a imaginar en un futuro cercano la posibilidad de suprimir la fase de vejez de la vida biológica. Es mi finalidad precisar los alcances de la biotecnología médica para este fin y, por último, discutir si la consecuencia nos llevaría a preguntarnos qué significa ser humano bajo esta perspectiva. Una crítica específica desde la Bioética Personalista Ontológicamente fundamentada alza su voz para hacer una defensa estricta de la totalidad de la persona en las diferentes etapas de su vida y el respeto absoluto de la dignidad en la ancianidad.

In this paper I propose to analyze the issue of old age, especially from the transhumanist and posthumanist perspective, which through postulates such as eternal youth come to imagine in the near future the possibility of suppressing the old age phase of biological life. It is my purpose to clarify the scope of medical biotechnology for this purpose and, finally, to discuss whether the consequence would lead us to ask ourselves what it means to be human from this perspective. A specific critique from Ontologically Grounded Personalist Bioethics raises its voice to make a strict defense of the totality of the person in the different stages of his or her life and absolute respect for dignity in old age.
