¿Una comedia de Calisto y Melibea de 1497?

Abstract

Resumen: La edición facsímil de la Comedia de Calisto y Melibea que vio la luz en Toledo en 1500 por Pedro de Hagenbach fue editada en 1961 con una introducción de Daniel Poyán Díaz. En la última nota de su introducción el estudioso, hablando del hecho de que unas obras se conocían ante s en forma manuscrita que impresa, afirma : "Así se explica [. . .1 que en el catálogo de Lorenzo Ramíre z de Prado, se registre una Tragedia (?) de Calisto y Melibea, en 1497" . Con estas palabras Poyán Día z conjeturaba entonces la posible existencia de un manuscrito de 1497 de una tal Tragedia de Calisto y Melibea conservada en la biblioteca particular de Ramírez de Prado : esta referencia constituye el punto de partida del presente estudio. Siguiendo la información dada por Poyán Díaz he investigado la figura de Lorenzo Ramírez de Prado (1583-1658), uno de los políticos y letrados más importantes durante la época de Felipe IV y uno de los bibliófilos más destacados del Siglo de Oro. En el catálogo de su biblioteca, entre los libros en cuarto de "THEOLOGOS ESCOLASTICOS, Y MORALES" se encuentra esta entrada : "Maestro Ciruelo, contra las Hechicerías, Salamanca, 149 7 (sic). Otro más, y con él la Tragicomedia de Calixto, y Melibea". Lo más plausible es que la entra - da en el inventario se refiera a un códice facticio compuesto de tres obras en este orden : la Reprobación de las supersticiones y las hechicerías de Maestro Pedro Ciruelo, una segunda que no s e identifica o tal vez acéfala y por tanto sin título y la Tragicomedia de Calisto y Melibea . Puesto que es muy poco probable que exista una versión de la Reprobación de Pedro Ciruelo de 1497, sólo hay dos soluciones a este enigma : o en el momento de hacer el inventario se equivocaron de fecha o e l lugar y la fecha fueron tomados de la última obra del códice facticio. Me inclino hacia la segunda hipótesis, la que nos hace pensar en la posible existencia de una Tragicomedia de Calisto y Melibea de 1497. Aceptando entonces la presencia del códice facticio en la biblioteca de Lorenzo Ramírez de Prado y aceptando la conjetura de que la fecha llega de la última obra que formaba parte de éste , el estudio apunta las razones por las cuales creo que se trata de una Comedia en lugar de una Tragicomedia (basadas principalmente en la conciencia histórica que había en la mitad del siglo XVII de dos diferentes estadios de la obra, es decir Comedia y Tragicomedia). El trabajo termina con una breve noticia de la vida del Maestro Pedro Ciruelo, de las ediciones conocidas hoy en día de s u Reprobación, y de la dispersión de la biblioteca de Lorenzo Ramírez de Prado.

Abstract: The facsimile edition of the Comedia de Calisto y Melibea that carne out in Toledo in 1500, by Pedro de Hagenbach, was edited in 1961 with an introduction by Daniel Poyán Díaz. In the last note of his introduction, talking about the fact that certain productions were previously known as manuscripts, the researcher affirms: " That explains why there is a Tragedia (?) de Calisto y Melibea, from 1497, in Lorenzo Ramírez de Prad o 's catalogue". With these words Poyán Díaz mentions the possible existence of a 1497 manuscript of a certain Tragedia de Calisto y Melibea preserved in the private library of Ramírez de Prado : this referente constitutes the starting point of the present study. Following the information provided by Poyán Díaz I have done some research on the figure of Lorenzo Ramírez de Prado (1583-1658), one of the most important politicians and literates during the period of Felipe IV, and one of the most important bibliophilists of the Siglo de Oro. In his library's catalogue, among the books in quarto of "THEOLOGOS ESCOLASTICOS, Y MORALES", we find this entry: "Maestro Ciruelo, contra las Hechicerías, Salamanca, 1497 (sic) . Otro más, y con él la Tragicomedia de Calixto, y Melibea ". Most likely, the entry in the catalogue refers to a factitious manuscript compounded of three works in this order : Reprobación de las supersticiones y las hechicerías of Maestro Pedro Ciruelo, a second one that remains unidentified or maybe without heading and thus without title, and the Tragicomedia de Calisto y Melibea . Given that the existence of a 1497 version of the Reprobación by Pedro Ciruelo is very unlikely, there are only two solutions for this enigma : either they made a mistake regarding the date at the moment of making the catalogue, or the place and date were taken from the last work of the factitious manuscript . I personally prefer the second solution, the one that makes us think of the possible existence of a Tragicomedia de Calisto y Melibea from 1497. Accepting then the presente of a factitious manuscript in the library of Lorenzo Ramírez de Prado, and accepting the hypothesis that the date comes from its last work, this study points out the reasons for my belief in the existence of a Comedy instead of a Tragicomedy (based principally in the historical consciente of the mid-seventeenth century that there were two different stages of the work, that is to say Comedy and Tragicomedy). The article ends up with a brief notice of Maestro Pedro Ciruelo's life, of the editions of his Reprobación known so far, and of the scattering of Lorenzo Ramírez de Prado's library.
