Resumen : Abstract: This article presents an overview of the evolution of the public finances of Corrientes province during the first half of the nineteenth century. In this period can be established two well defined moments. The first one comprises from the formation of the province in 1814 to the end of 1830's. In it the new State organized an efficient rentistic system based on taxes imposed to fluvial commerce. The second one is characterized by a long crisis of the provincial finances due to the conflict against Rosas and then by the transference of the fluvial custom houses to the Federal government. After difficult adjustments, during the decade of 1860, a new period began when the revenues coming from custom taxes were replaced by those coming from selling of public lands.
