Consideraciones bioéticas acerca del diagnóstico de muerte y la importancia del concepto de persona humana

Abstract

Resumen: Se presentan los criterios médicos de diagnóstico de muerte; se hacen comentarios sobre el uso de tratamientos ordinarios o extraordinarios en pacientes críticos, o en coma o terminales terapéuticos, y sus implicancias éticas que llevan a la reflexión filosófica sobre la persona humana, su valor, su dignidad, su trascendencia. Se afirma la exclusiva responsabilidad del médico para establecer el diagnóstico con criterio científico. Se hacen consideraciones sobre la necesidad de correcta formación ética de la conciencia del médico, para lo cual se aportan diversas opiniones y se analizan las dos concepciones antropológicas sobre la entidad de la persona humana: la ontogénica o materialista y la ontológica o metafísica, que influyen en distintas corrientes de pensamiento médico y jurídico para tomar determinaciones. Se aportan fundamentos de interpretación basados en una Bioética personalista, tanto en su aspecto médico científico, como en el ético filosófico, con documentos de actualidad.

Abstract: This paper presents medical criteria for a diagnosis of death, comments on ordinary and extraordinary treatments used for therapeutic terminal patients or those in a critical condition or in coma and the ethical implications, this involves. These lead us to reflect on human beings, their value, their dignity, and their transcendence from a philosophical point of view. It also sustains that it is the doctor´s sole responsibility to arrive at a diagnosis based on scientific criteria. Some considerations are made on the need of physicians with ethically educated conscience; with that object different opinions are expressed and both anthropological conceptions regarding the human being entity are analyzed: the ontogenic or materialistic and the ontological or metaphysical one; which influence different medical and juridical schools of thought in the decision making process. Foundations of understanding based on a selforiented Bioethics are stated in a scientific-medical and ethicalphilosophical approach supported by updated documents.
