Inmigración y asociacionismo: la integración de italianos a la elite correntina 1864-1874

Abstract

Resumen: En la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, la experiencia asociativa se expandió por el territorio argentino con la llegada de inmigrantes europeos que buscaron, de esta forma, dar respuesta a sus necesidades y definir sus fronteras identitarias. En la ciudad de Corrientes, en 1864 se fundó la asociación italiana de ayuda mutua “Unione e Benevolenza”. Desaparecida luego de la Guerra del Paraguay, la entidad no perduró en el tiempo, sin embargo, el arribo de italianos a la ciudad continuó y en 1870 se fundó una asociación denominada “Unione e Fratellanza”, aún en actividad. Nuestro objetivo es analizar el proceso de integración de los líderes étnicos italianos a la elite tradicional correntina. Dicha integración quedó manifiesta por la inserción de peninsulares en organismos políticos de la ciudad, por los vínculos matrimoniales que establecieron y por las prácticas de sociabilidad que desplegaron.

Abstract: In the second half of the nineteenth century, the associative experience expanded throughout the Argentine territory with the arrival of European immigrants who sought, in this way, to respond to their needs and define their identity borders. In the city of Corrientes, in 1864 the Italian mutual aid association "Unione e Benevolenza" was founded. Disappeared after the Paraguayan War, the entity did not last in time. However, the arrival of Italians to the city continued and, in 1870, an association called "Unione e Fratellanza" was founded, and is still in activity today. Our objective is to analyze the process of integration of those Italian ethnic leaders into the traditional correntina elite. This integration was manifested by the insertion of peninsulars in political bodies of the city, by the marriage bonds they established and by the sociability practices they deployed.
