La bioética y la libertad humana

Abstract

Luego de considerar la condición moral del saber bioético, se trata la libertad del hombre en base al estudio del Comentario de santo Tomás de Aquino al Libro de las Sentencias de Pedro Lombardo. Esta obra juvenil presenta ya el genio del autor. Se analiza la naturaleza de la libertad, sus presupuestos, la estructura dialéctica del acto libre, la cualificación del hombre por obra del libre albedrío, y, finalmente, la constitución de la libertad como participación de la causalidad de Dios en el orden dinámico. Se pone de relieve la autodeterminación del hombre en base a su voluntad libre, que origina su responsabilidad.

After pondering on the moral nature of bioethical knowledge, man’s freedom is dealt with on the basis of the study of saint Thomas Aquinas’ commentary on Peter Lombard’s Book of Sentences. This early work already shows the geniality of Aquinas. He analyzes the nature of freedom and its premises, the dialectic structure of free acts, man’s qualification as a result of his free will and, finally, freedom as God’s causality within the dynamic order. The emphasis is placed on man’s self-determination based on free will, which is the source of his responsibility.
