Marihuana medicinal : ¿medicina o medicamento?

Abstract

Resumen: Hoy día la producción y comercialización de la marihuana es ilegal en casi todo el mundo a pesar que la planta del cannabis ha estado entre los humanos desde el Neolítico. Así pues, la legalización de la marihuana ha sido objeto de acalorados debates. Quienes apoyan la legalidad se basan en su larga historia de uso y alegan que las propiedades curativas son lo suficientemente sólidas para considerar el cannabis como medicamento; pero la historia tiene mucho para decir sobre las aplicaciones clínicas reales. Más allá de la eficacia de la marihuana para aliviar ciertos síntomas, existen exigencias éticas que el Cannabis sativa L. debe cumplir para ser considerado fitoterapéutico o fármaco. Este artículo habla sobre tales condiciones.

Abstract: Although the plant of cannabis has remained among humans since the Neolithic; nowadays, its production and trade are illegal in almost the entire world. Therefore, the legalization of marijuana has been the subject of heated debate. On the grounds that the cannabis has been used throughout the history of human kind, people claiming for its legalization plea that its healing properties are robust enough to consider this plant as a medicine, but history has a great deal to say about real clinical applications. No matter how effective marijuana can be to alleviate some symptoms, still there are ethical requirements that the Cannabis sativa L. has to fulfill in order to be considered a phytotherapeutic or a pharmaceutical drug. This article deals with such conditions.
