The author elaborates on the relationship between Bioethics and Biopolitics. The principle of justice -a paramount element in Bioethics– is, on the one hand, equality of access to health care for the most vulnerable segment of the population and, on the other, the ethical duty of promoting equality in health care, as well as respect for the patient’s rights, which must guaranteed by law. Designing this life and health protection legislation is part of the mission of Biopolitics, but Bioethics goes beyond: it promotes justice as an ethical principle and proposes the bioethical duty of solidarity, beyond justice. The analysis will focus on the implications these two principles, justice and solidarity, have on Bioethics, the contribution of personalisme and on the relationship between Bioethics and Biopolitics.
