Crónicas mestizas novohispanas : relecturas a 500 años de la caída de Tenochtitlan

Abstract

Resumen: Entre las crónicas de Indias encontramos un subgrupo cuya riqueza textual no ha sido reconocida aún en su totalidad. Me refiero a las crónicas mestizas, textos que conjugan elementos de las tradiciones indígena y occidental, compuestas por indios, mestizos y/o frailes que recopilan información sobre los pueblos amerindios. Estas crónicas presentan un discurso distinto que, si bien exhibe similitudes temáticas, ideológicas y retóricas con otros textos, conforma un sujeto de enunciación complejo y disímil, a la vez que ponen en escena una tensionada convivencia de tradiciones. En esta oportunidad, y ante la conmemoración por los 500 años de la caída de Tenochtitlan, propongo un recorrido por las versiones y relatos sobre la “conquista de México” en las crónicas mestizas novohispanas. Una lectura atenta de las historias de Diego Muñoz Camargo, Juan Bautista Pomar, Cristóbal del Castillo, Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxóchitl, Hernando de Alvarado Tezozomoc, Domingo Francisco San Antón Muñón Chimalpahin, Diego Durán y Bernardino de Sahagún permitirá adentrarnos en la complejidad del archivo colonial latinoamericano y reflexionar sobre cómo se lo ha abordado, leído y conceptualizado.

Abstract: Among the Chronicles of the Indias there is a subgroup whose textual richness has not been acknowledged yet. With this I refer to the half-blooded chronicles, which are texts that combine the indigenous and the western traditions, made up of aborigins, half-blooded people and/or friars who compile information about the American aborigins. These chronicles present a different speech which, in spite of the thematic, rethorical and ideological similarities with other texts, conform a complex and different subject of enunciation and show a tense convergence of traditions. This time, and in memory of the 500 years of the fall of Tenochtitlan, I set out to revisit the stories and retellings about the "conquest of México" in the Novohispanic half-blooded chronicles. A thorough re-reading of the stories of Diego Muñoz Camargo, Juan Bautista Pomar, Cristóbal del Castillo, Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxóchitl, Hernando de Alvarado Tezozomoc, Domingo Francisco San Antón Muñón Chimalpahin, Diego Durán and Bernardino de Sahagún will allow us to enter the complexity of the Latin American colonial archive and reflect on how it has been studied, read and conceptualised.
