Abstract: The authoress presents an analysis of sorne possible and generally parodistic allusions to Christianity in two classical novels -the first a Latin novel, the second a Greek on~. both of the second half of the second centwy: those of Petron and Chariton of Aphrodisia. In Petron the allusions would be to the Unction in Bethania, the crow ofthe cock, the Eucharist, the crucifixion and the resurrection ofJesus Christ; Chariton probably alludes to the crucifIxion and the resurrection. In both novels tite allusions to crucifixion and resurrection seem to bo connected to the anti-Christian accusation oftymborychia, a crime that the so-caBed Edict ofNazareth (probably antiChristian, ofthe late Neronian age) punished with the death.
