Pautas para el discernimiento de las doctrinas de Arrio

Abstract

La esencia del cristianismo, decía Romano Guardini, es su afirmación de la divini- dad de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo; la negación de esta verdad socaba el fundamento de la fe eclesial. Entonces ¿cómo se puede llegar a esta negación del fundamento de la profesión de fe? El presente trabajo analiza la doctrina de Arrio y puntualiza en dos influencias: una filosófica y otra política. Dejamos de lado los supuestos fundamentos bíblicos que, no solo parten de una citación del Antiguo Testamento, sino que ignoran las afirmaciones explícitas de la divinidad presentes en el Nuevo Testamento. Nos interesan, más bien, las influencias de los Oráculos de Caldea y de los presupuestos políticos de la monarquía imperial. Ambas predispusieron a Arrio a negar la divinidad de la segunda y la tercera persona de la Trinidad y a afirmar un único principio creador y ordenador de todo lo creado. Segunda y Ter- cera persona son “connumeradas” entre las creaturas. De este modo se asienta la doctrina monárquica del microcosmos a imagen del macrocosmos.

The essence of Christianity, said Romano Guardini, is its affirmation of the divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ; the denial of this truth undermines the foundation of ecclesial faith. So how can this denial of the foundation of the profession of faith come about? This paper analyses the doctrine of Arius and points to two influen- ces: one philosophical and the other political. We leave aside the supposed biblical foundations, which not only start from a quotation from the Old Testament but also ignore the explicit affirmations of divinity present in the New Testament. We are more interested in the influences of the Oracles of Chaldea and the political assumptions of the imperial monarchy. Both predisposed Arius to deny the divi- nity of the second and third persons of the Trinity and to affirm a single creative and ordering principle of all creation. The second and third persons are “counted” among creatures. In this way, the monarchical doctrine of the microcosm in the image of the macrocosm is established.
