Joaquín Torres García: el álbum Structures de 1932

Abstract

Este artículo tiene como tema central el álbum inédito Structures de Joaquín Torres García, con fecha de 1932. La investigación sobre ese álbum me llevó a otros artistas como el italiano Umberto Boccioni, la alemana Hannah Höch y el argentino Alejandro Xul Solar. Como tipo de coleccionismo, el álbum es un procedimiento marginal con respecto a la forma y naturaleza de la obra por la que estos creadores son conocidos en el mundo del arte. Y por eso mismo, estos “álbumes” han inspirado un buen número de indagaciones. Podemos conjeturar que se trata de una tradición o de un hábito, poco o nada estudiados en la historia del arte, que encuentra en el trabajo extraordinario de Aby Warburg un punto de partida tanto como de fuga.

This article focuses on the unpublished album Structures by Joaquín Torres García, dated 1932. My research on that album led me to other artists such as the Italian Umberto Boccioni, the German Hannah Höch, and the Argentine Alejandro Xul Solar. As a type of collecting, the album is marginal to the form and nature of the work by which these creators are known in the world of art. And for that reason, these “albums” have been an inspiration to inquiry and research. We can conjecture that it is a tradition or a habit, little studied in art history, which finds in the extraordinary work of Aby Warburg a point of departure as well as convergence.
