José María Ramos Mejía y Las multitudes argentinas, la construcción del patriotismo finisecular

Abstract

Resumen: El presente artículo condensa los abordajes en torno a la disputa por el patriotismo y el nacionalismo de la dirigencia finisecular argentina, encarnados en el discurso de uno de sus participantes, el médico José María Ramos Mejía, quien desde su expertiz médica, define en su obra más citada, Las multitudes argentinas, a ese otro a gobernar, en tiempos de consolidación del Estado, estableciendo tanto el diagnóstico de la denominada cuestión del inmigrante, como la respuesta necesaria, por la vía educativa. En discusión con el nacionalismo y la historia mitrista, intenta un nuevo relato fundacional, donde la multitud será, por así definirlo, el actor político que opera desde la emancipación de la monarquía, hacia el presente del dirigente. En una clara intervención política procura un patriotismo desde donde se legitima como dirigente y define en su discurso, parte del diccionario de la época.

Abstract: This article summarizes the approaches around the dispute over patriotism and nationalism of the Argentine turn-of-the-century leadership, embodied in the speech of one of its participants, the doctor José María Ramos Mejía, who from his medical expertise, defines in his work Most cited, The Argentine multitudes, that other to govrn, in times of consolidation of the State, establishing both the diagnosis of the so-called immigrant question, as well as the necessary response, through education.
